Does your site need a re-do?

Are you running your business with the same website you’ve had for years?

With the digital world changing by the second, it’s important to make sure your website can stand out from the crowd. Time for a re-do?

We get it. It’s a big decision you want to be sure about.

To help, we’ve pulled together a list of the top issues clients come to us with when it’s time for a new site. If you recognise these, it’s probably time for a redesign.

1 – Your website isn’t mobile friendly

Hear us out.

It’s 2022 – if your website can’t cope with a mobile experience, you may as well not have one.

And we’re not just talking making things responsive, stacking content and being done with it.

We’re talking user engagement.

Is your site exciting to interact with on mobile?
Are you making users want to scroll and engage with your content?
Is your content legible and accessible on smaller screens?

Whether you’re B2C or B2B, it no longer matters – your users are on mobile and you need to meet them there.

2 – Your bounce rate is worryingly high

Google Analytics defines “bounce rate” as a percentage of single-page sessions on your site. No click-throughs to another page. No interactions on your site.

This sounds scary, but it doesn’t always mean the end of the world.

It might be that your users are finding all they need on the one page they visit (think a phone number, opening times, an email address), and don’t need to navigate further throughout your site.

But if you have a content-heavy site that users aren’t interested in discovering, there’s a problem that needs to be addressed.

3 – Your site takes ages to load

We’ve all been there – (not so) patiently waiting for a web page to load, only to give up after a few more seconds and close the tab for something better.

Or, perhaps worse – being halfway down a web page when things start loading in and in disrupting your visit. The result? Closing the tab for something better.

Not only having an impact on bounce rate, site speed is a huge factor in how Google determines your site’s search engine ranking.

If you’re second-guessing how many seconds users will be willing to wait for your content, it might be time for a new site.

4 – Your branding is all over the place

Your visual branding plays a huge role in users connected and engaging with your business.

From your logo and letterheads to social media and site graphics – if it’s not coherent across the board, your users are going to notice a disconnect.

Your site needs to align with your message online, including your social media, email marketing and paid ads.

Make sure you’re remembered for a striking brand experience across all touchpoints – your customers will take note, so you should too.

5 – Your users aren’t sure what to do

Yes, your site needs to look fresh, clean and on-brand, but your users are likely visiting for information.

If your customers aren’t provided with an easy-to-follow user journey throughout your site, there’s a good chance they might not stay around long enough to work it out.

Internal linkage is a huge part of any website, which is why the strategy phase of any project is key to getting the results you want.

If your users aren’t being presented with an intuitive understanding of where to click and how to find out more, your current site may no longer be serving your business needs as well as it should.
